The practice has a highly qualified team of hygienists. Our dental hygienists’ whole professional life is dedicated to helping patients achieve higher levels of dental health and is the focus of each and every appointment. Think of it like building a house – you wouldn’t build a house on poor foundations, would you? Therefore, healthy gums and teeth are the foundations of good dentistry.
Our dental hygienists remove soft and hard deposits from teeth, teach patients how to practice good oral hygiene and provide other preventive dental care. They inspect patients’ teeth and gums, recording the presence of diseases or abnormalities. They remove calculus, stains and plaque from teeth, perform deep cleaning as a periodontal therapy and apply cavity-preventive agents such as fluorides and pit and fissure sealants.
Our hygienists offer Guided Biofilm Therapy to all new patients where appropriate. This provides a service that is tailor made for the needs of each individual patient.
Guided Biofilm treatment is based on clinically proven technologies. It is safe and gentle and a state of the art approach to remove biofilm (the sticky substance that sticks to the teeth and gums and causes gum disease and tooth decay).
Following a thorough gum examination by the dentist, the hygienist will disclose you to see areas of biofilm build up. She will then offer advice using floss, tooth brushing techniques and interdental brushes to help you access these areas and devise an oral hygiene programme specifically for you. The following steps are then carried over;
A combination of fine powder, warm water and air create a gentle spray to clean your teeth and gums.
If there is gum inflammation a different nozzle – the Perioflow will be used.
If there are heavy deposits of tartar a Piezon will be used. This is also a comfortable procedure.
A final check is made and your mouth should be left clean and fresh – a spa treatment for your teeth and gums. You will be given the recommended products on leaving to help you continue the fine work.
Air-Flow treatment is a pleasant and comfortable oral cleaning therapy. It takes just one appointment and will leave your teeth feeling smooth, clean, polished and ready to smile with confidence.
Airflow uses a spray of air, aesthetic polishing powder and a gentle jet stream of water to remove surface stains caused by tobacco, food and drink, etc. You will immediately see and feel the difference.
